The Worm Casting Company

The Brief

The Worm Casting Company produces worm castings, the rich, natural fertilizer that earthworms make, for gardeners and growers who want to feed their soil the organic way. They came to the project with initial concepts of their own and a clear idea of the pieces they wanted their logo to hold: a sign, their business name, and a worm.

My job was to take those raw ideas and turn them into a finished logo that actually felt like a brand, then give the rest of the team a single reference to build the rest of the identity around.

The Approach

The client had the ingredients. What they needed was someone to bring them together into something cohesive and usable.

  • Start from their initial concepts rather than replacing their vision
  • Combine the three elements they cared about, a sign, the business name, and a worm, into one balanced mark
  • Deliver a logo that felt friendly and grounded, a fit for an organic, down-to-earth product
  • Build a brand reference so everyone touching the project stayed consistent
The Deliverables

The Logo

  • Designed in Affinity Designer, translating the client’s concepts into a finished mark
  • Brought together the sign, business name, and worm into one cohesive logo
  • Delivered as a clean stacked version ready to carry the brand across the new website and beyond
  • [If you delivered variations (horizontal, submark, one-color), list them here. If you can name the colors or type from the moodboard, add them too.]

The Moodboard

  • Created a brand moodboard as the single source of truth for the identity
  • Gave the designer building the website and the client’s own team one shared reference for the brand’s look, feel, and colors
  • Kept everyone aligned so the finished site matched the brand from the start

Once the logo and moodboard were done, I handed everything off to my co-worker, who used them as the foundation for the client’s new website build.

Why This Project Matters

Branding work like this is the quiet foundation everything else sits on. A logo and a moodboard might look like small deliverables, but they’re what let a whole website, and a whole brand, come together with a consistent look and feel. Taking a client’s rough concepts and shaping them into something they’re proud to put on their sign, their site, and their product is one of my favorite parts of design.
